The Wild Game Expo is the vision of retired Virginia Game Warden Lt. Dennis Mullins as an outreach event for men and women who love the great outdoors. The 2013 event was the inaugural event held at Camp Bethel in Wise, VA, with over 270 people in attendance. The event features displays from local hunters and anglers, featuring Elk, Deer, Bear, Skunk and Turkey from hunters as well as Bass, Trout and even a Bluegill from anglers. Adults and children alike have a great time.
THE FOOD
The food is a great success at the Wild Game Expo. The food is supplied by those in attendance by bringing their wild game speciality and served as a “Crock Pot Luck” by allowing those in attendance to sample the delicious wild game cuisine. There are several Deer dishes including stew, stroganoff and chili beans. Some Elk recipes are dishes like Elk stew, smoked loin and spaghetti to include a few and of course Squirrel gravy. We have tasted such dishes as Wild Goat, Goose and Wild Boar. Who knows what will show up on the table this year.
Barbecue and Pizza are also served for those who do not desire the succulent wild game dishes.
SPEAKERS
The expo features presentations by game biologists who have made presentations on Virginia’s Elk restocking and the Black Bear population and habits.
GIVEAWAYS
Door prizes are also an exciting part of the event.
Prizes are given by random drawing and won by children and adults alike.
The grand prize for the 2017 expo will be a kayak. Winners must be 18 years of age or older to win firearms. You must be present to win any prize.
